Thank you for your interest in Toastmasters. Canary Wharf Communicators meet the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month from 6-7:45 pm. The club is open to anyone 18 years or older.
Toastmasters International is a leading Communication and Leadership organisation with over 200,000 members in 10,000 clubs in 80 countries worldwide. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped millions of men and women become more confident in front of an audience.
Through a proven learn-by-doing program in Toastmasters, you'll develop the skills necessary to:
- Listen more effectively
- Think on your feet
- Speak confidently in a wide range of situations
A Toastmasters meeting has three major components: impromptu speaking, known as Tabletopics, prepared manual speeches on self-selected topics designed to focus on specific effective speaking skills such as organising your speech or gestures or vocal variety and evaluations and provides the opportunity to practice your skills in a friendly, supportive environment. Members organise and run the meetings which are wonderful networking opportunities, in addition to being educational and fun. Toastmasters membership requires attending meetings regularly, participating in the various parts of the program including conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches and offering constructive evaluation. Toastmasters enables members to learn-by-doing and there is support for personal development throughout the programme.
There are about 35 members in the club at present and the annual fee for new members is £60.
Toastmasters International assess a one-time new member fee and then semi-annual dues to cover the new member materials and administrative costs of running the organisation. Also included in the £60 are administrative fees to be used by the club toward refreshments, etc.
Your new member fee includes:
The cost of processing the application for membership, the New Member Kit (Communication and Leadership Program Manual, Gestures: Your Body Speaks Manual ,Your Speaking Voice Manual, Effective Speech Evaluation Manual, subscription to THE TOASTMASTER Magazine), postage, the cost of processing the Competent Communicator application, the Competent Communicator certificate and two advanced manuals, postage for mailing the Competent Communicator certificate and manuals, and producing and mailing a letter to the member's employer.
